Community Rights Support Package Announced
The government has announced a £17.5 million package of support for communities who wish to use the Community Right to Build to shape development in their areas. Alongside the financial support, a new support hub, managed by Locality, is being launched which will give local people the tools and confidence to make best use of the new Right.

There are more than 240 Local Councils and 2,000 elected Town, Parish and Community councillors in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough who work to improve their community. Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Association of Local Councils is the membership association for Local Councils (Town, Parish and Community councils) in the four Districts within Cambridgeshire and Unitary Authority area of Peterborough. Funding Sources:

Cambridge News Press Relief Community Fund
The Fund will support many smaller local charities, groups, organisations and individuals covering a wide spectrum of need. The Fund makes awards of up to £5k in support of helping the disadvantaged to achieve their potential; contributing to the quality of life for an individual or a community; providing funds or partial funds for specific projects to be set up; or providing for essential items e.g. medical, social, play equipment. The next funding decisions will be made on 8 August 2012 and applications must be received 3 weeks beforehand.

For the June oil buying round (completed on 29 June), our members paid 47.8 pence per litre for their heating oil. That’s a saving of 6.2 ppl against the average price we found of 54 ppl. If the price we paid beat the price you paid then why not considering joining our community oil buying scheme? Please tell your neighbours, friends and family too.

Free Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Roadshows
The Government has now received Royal Assent of the Protection of Freedoms Act which is repealing the Vetting and Barring Scheme and replacing it with a new scaled back range of disclosure and barring services. The Home Office is running a series of road shows around the country to explain the changes to the CRB process. The focus will be on the 5 initial changes being introduced in September this year. The target audience is employers, voluntary organisations and charities. Please note East of England road show is Peterborough on 12th July at the Bull Hotel. Cambridgeshire ACRE is supporting Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service with piloting a Community Champion Scheme in the South Cambridgeshire area. Community Champions are being recruited to speak to local communities about home fire safety and escape plans, as well as referring those people who don’t feel confident about undertaking a check of their own home. If you live in the South Cambridgeshire area and could spare a few hours each month then you could really make a difference in your community.
