Cycling Pair Clocking Up The Miles Ready For Charity Ride

Cambridge MP Julian Huppert

MP Julian Huppert and Cambridge City Councillor Susannah Kerr have been clocking up the miles as they prepare for Sunday’s Big Bike Ride.

At the weekend, the pair notched up over 150 miles between them as part of their training for the event which will boost three local charities.

Susannah cycled from Cambridge to Watlington and back on Saturday – a distance of just over 90 miles. On Sunday, she was out again cycling 22 miles to Longstanton and back along the guided busway.

Julian headed out from Cambridge to Clare in Suffolk – a return journey of around 52 miles.

On Sunday they will cycle 125 miles in a day – 201.2km to commemorate the year – and aim to raise £1,000 for the Arthur Rank Hospice, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices and Press Relief – the News Community Fund.

Julian said: “It’s going to be a tough challenge on Sunday and we have been putting in the miles in the hope that we can finish the ride.

“We are both enthusiastic cyclists but neither of us has covered this distance before in a day. But we are riding for such good causes that we’re determined to see it through.”

Susannah said: “It’s been great getting out at the weekend and riding through the countryside. I was happy that I managed to cover 90 miles on Saturday and could still go out the next day and get back on my bike for another 22.

“I’ve been really pushing myself in the hope that I will be prepared for Sunday’s ride. So many people have sponsored us and we can’t let them or the charities down.”

Julian and Susannah have set up a Just Giving page for sponsorship. It can be found at: http://www.justgiving.com/JulianHuppertMP  They can also be sponsored by text by sending JHSK87 to 70070 and stating the amount of sponsorship.
