Safer Routes to School at Bar Hill Primary School

The following notification was sent to all Parish Councillors regarding proposals by the "Safer Routes to School" initiative for Bar Hill Primary School;

I am getting in touch regarding the Safer Routes to School Project (SRTS) at Bar Hill Primary School, I am working with the school to reduce the number of children being driven to school and to promote sustainable travel to school supporting and promoting walking and cycling to school where possible.  However, some children do need to be driven to school for a number of reasons, but obviously this generates a number of vehicles in the vicinity of the school.  The SRTS working party at the school would like to ensure that drivers do not park near the school gates and to this end have requested that the SRTS project looks into the possibility of enforceable parking restrictions such as double yellow lines or school time waiting restrictions.
Double yellow lines These lines prohibit parking 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Single yellow lines These lines prohibit parking for less than 24 hours and may also only apply on certain days of the week only. Sign plates are required to indicate the details of the restriction in this case during school drop off and pick up times for example from Monday to Friday only from 8.30 - 9.30 and 3.00 - 4.00.  At other times drivers (for example people using the library) can park in this location.
I wanted to ask for the Parish Council's views on the possible installation of parking restrictions in this area to improve child pedestrian and cyclist safety.  I have attached some photographs of the situation at the end of the school day in the location that the SRTS working party at school would like to have the restrictions installed. It may be that a combination of parking restrictions would be suitable for this school, such as double yellow lines in the area immediately by the school gates and a single yellow line with school time waiting restrictions in the area opposite the library just after the parking bay as you approach school.
