Scotsdales Safety Day Is A Scorcher For Firefighters

Residents enjoying the scorching sunshine at a garden centre picked up top tips for safe barbecuing from Cambridge firefighters.

As flocks of Cambridgeshire homeowners poured into Scotsdales Garden Centre, in Great Shelford, on Saturday (July 6) to stock up on summer essentials, they were met by Black Watch Cambridge who reminded them about staying fire safe this summer.

The event was part of a month-long summer fire safety campaign by the crew, who are giving week-by-week safety advice to residents in the city centre and South Cambridgeshire villages.

Firefighter Nick Brown, Black Watch Cambridge, said: "The event was a great success and we spoke to dozens of families about having safe and enjoyable barbecues now the sun has finally appeared.

"Thank you to all the people who came out to meet us as well - it was really good to meet people and families living in our local community and knowing that they're listening to our safety advice."

Following on from last week's barbecue safety advice, this week, the crew is urging the public to be careful in the countryside. Follow #summersafety for the latest tips.
