EU Rules On Flight Times Will Not Lower UK Air Safety Standards

Having followed the long argument between the airline pilots' trade unions and the European Commission on moves to tighten the regulation of flight times across Europe, which was voted on today in the European Parliament.

Andrew Duff said 'I was happy to vote to progress the draft law. Based on careful study by the European Aviation Safety Agency, the Commission proposes actually to reduce flight times for pilots and increase rest times. Minimum standards are to be set by EU law for all 28 EU states and all EU airlines. This should improve the safety, in particular, of low-cost airlines.'
