Information And Advice On Independent Living Equipment

A mobile demonstration unit providing information and advice on equipment to help people with their day-to-day living needs will be out and about in Cambridgeshire.

The demonstration van and expert advisers will provide information on the advice and support available to enable people to stay independent, safe and well and provide solutions for independent living.

NRS Healthcare is contracted by the County Council to provide the Integrated Community Equipment Service (ICES). Their custom-built mobile demonstration and assessment unit will be visiting three locations in Cambridgeshire during October and November.

The expert adviser will be able to show equipment and offer advice which helps people to more easily manage daily activities such as bathing, washing, dressing and getting around their home.

Additionally there will be information and advice on services and support provided by Cambridgeshire County Council to help people maintain their independence including the Your Life, Your Choice adult social care website and AskSARA an online guide to advice and equipment to help with day-to-day living, health information available from Libraries and assistive technology resources.

County Council Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Councillor Fred Yeulett, said: “The Integrated Community Equipment Services provides health and social care equipment on loan to people referred by a health or social care professional.

The NRS Healthcare’s mobile visits will help to promote the awareness of equipment to aide daily living across Cambridgeshire, especially in more rural and inaccessible areas and will enable individuals who are funding their own equipment or wanting to organise support for themselves to find out about the options available.”

Staff from Adult Social Care, the Assistive Technology Team and the Library Service, will also be available at each location to provide more information and advice.

The demonstration van will be at:
  • Morrisons, Cambourne – Friday, October 25, 10.00-4.00 pm
  • St Ives Market – Monday, October 28, during market hours
  • Shire Hall, Cambridge, Tuesday, November 12, 10.00-4.00 pm
The stop at Shire Hall will also offer an opportunity for people to return any unwanted equipment..
