New Play Area Opening At Jesus Green

A new play area is opening at Jesus Green open space on Friday 25th October at 12.45pm with the whole of Park St C of E Primary School, Cambridge being the very first to play!

The new play area replaces the existing one that had become worn and rundown after serving the local community for over 20 years. The Mayor, Cllr Paul Saunders and Executive Ward Councillor for Public Places, Andrea Reiner will be in attendance.

The new play area completely renovates the space and creates an enhanced location with a balance of bespoke and traditional play opportunities to create a premier destination park in the heart of Cambridge for the whole family.

A significant focus of the design was to bring elements from the nearby River Cam and Lido into the play area and create a destination park that has a powerful statement of identity. This theme culminates in the Galleon that not only offers tremendous play value but has the wow factor and will be a real asset to the community.

Cllr Andrea Reiner, Executive Councillor for Public Places said: “I have spent many happy hours in this playground, and I expect I will spend many more here. I know many children across the area have been looking forward to this re-opening. I look forward to seeing the kids enjoying the new space to the fullest. She added, “This is a large investment in the future of play for the city. Research shows that play has many benefits for children, families and the wider community, as well as improving health and quality of life. Jesus Green play area has seen a dramatic transformation of the way it once looked.”

The project has been funded out of S106 developers’ contributions.
