Parents Prosecuted For Failing To Ensure Children Attend School

Thomas Clarkson Academy cracks down on non-attendance.

The parents of two more students at Thomas Clarkson Academy in Wisbech have been prosecuted and fined for failing to ensure their children attend school.

The mother of one child pleaded guilty and was fined £180 with £150 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Both parents of a second student did not attend court but pleaded guilty by letter and were each fined £100 and ordered to pay £150 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

The cases were heard at King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court. None of the defendants can be named for legal reasons.

Clare Claxton, Principal of Thomas Clarkson Academy said: “No one wants to be too tough on parents or children - we would much rather work with them. However, sometimes when you have helped and encouraged as much as you can, you just have to say no, this has got to stop. It’s a tough but simple message - children have got to come to school if they are to succeed in life.”
