Davies Aviation Report

We thank Howard Davies for the work he has done in producing his interim report and we welcome the debate it will no doubt spark over the future of aviation in the UK.

The Liberal Democrats recognise the benefits that aviation has for the British economy; however we have opposed the expansion of airport capacity in the South East, particularly at Heathrow, because of serious environmental concerns.

We await Howard Davies’ final report in 2015. However, we will not endorse an expansion in airport capacity which would increase current noise pollution for the hundreds of thousands of residents living beneath the flight path, or which would break the Committee on Climate Change’s recommendations on aviation, which are needed to meet our carbon reduction targets.
