Local Government Finance

Liberal Democrats have been fighting to make sure the Local Government Finance Settlement is as manageable and proportionate as possible. The average reduction in spending power for councils is 2.9 per cent.

Councils up and down the country continue to do a magnificent job for local people in face of big challenges and reduced budgets.

Liberal Democrats have been working hard to help ease the strain on councils. This includes money to help local authorities build new homes and extra cash help for rural councils.

Previously councils hardest hit had their reductions in spending power capped at 8.1 per cent. This cap has now been reduced to 6.9 per cent, which means more protection and assistance. No Liberal Democrat council has reached the 6.9 per cent threshold.
