Vote For Cambridge Markets!

How much do you Love Your Local Market? The National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) is asking you, the public, to vote for your favourite Market.

Cambridge Markets are one of the few 7 day a week markets in the country, with the General Market running from Monday to Saturday, an Arts, Crafts & Local Produce Market on a Sunday (both in the Market Square), and an Arts & Crafts Market at All Saints Garden, Trinity Street on Saturdays.

It is also one of the oldest markets in the country (and recently voted one of the top 125 most influential businesses in the region by the Cambridge News) and has been in existence since Saxon times, long before the arrival of the University Scholars!

The Market Square is a hive of activity with around 100 stalls offering a wide selection of goods from fruit and vegetables, CDs, clothes, gifts and flowers to sweets, jewellery, books and recycled goods. There are also a number of services offered on the market including a tailoring stall and two outdoor hairdressers! The Sunday Market offers a selection of produce from the region’s most esteemed artists, craftspeople, photographers and farmers, while the unique All Saints Garden Craft Market provides an opportunity for local artists and craftspeople to exhibit their work in this delightful tree-shaded garden in the heart of historic Cambridge with the motto "We Make What We Sell"!

To vote for Cambridge Markets please go on to NABMA’s website, The closing date for voting is Monday 13th January 2014.

Councillor Andrea Reiner says "We are privileged to have such a fabulous market in Cambridge with such a diverse and interesting offer. I encourage you to vote for Cambridge Markets as Britain’s Favourite Market and help it earn the national recognition it so deserves".

A weekend of fun and entertainment took place in the Market Square on the 7th & 8th December, when Cambridge Markets took part in two national campaigns, "Small Business Saturday" and the "Love Your Local Market Christmas Campaign." "Sing! Choirs Sing! Cambridge" delighted shoppers on the Saturday and "Splitz Theatre Artz" performed a Flash Mob dance in the Market Square. Sunday saw husband and wife duo, ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’ perform jazz, blues, folk and Christmas music, while children were entertained by ‘Sammy Magic Magic’ Magician and face painting by Clare Bryant.

Both campaigns were aimed at raising the profile of markets and small businesses in their local communities and highlighting the important role they play! The public were invited to take part in the Cambridge Markets Quiz with questions about the market and its traders, over both days. All correct entries went into a draw, which took place on Tuesday 10th December. Ms L Wilcox won a Cambridge Markets Hamper, Ms F Grimsditch won tickets for a family of four to the Corn Exchange’s ‘Sing-a-long-Joseph’ Christmas show and Mr N Butcher won a Chauffeured Punting Trip along the backs of the River Cam with Scudamore’s Punting Company.
