eCops: Bogus Trading Standards Officer 03/02/2014

Cambridgeshire County Council’s Trading Standards team is warning people to be extra vigilant after a resident was asked to hand over thousands of pounds to doorstep scammers claiming to be Trading Standards officers. On this occasion no money was handed over.

The bogus Trading Standards Officer told the individual, who cannot be named, but lives in the Cambridge area, that the money was needed so that they could release compensation awarded by the courts following the prosecution of offenders from an earlier scam which occurred at their home.

Genuine Trading Standards officers would never act like this and would never ask residents to pay money for the services they provide. All officers carry official identification which you can check.

If you think you have been a victim of a Rogue Trader, please report this by contacting Cambs Police on 101 or Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0845 4040506
