Youngsters Meet Bin Crews

The recycling collection crew made an extra special trip to Millington Road Nursery in Newnham to explain the journey their recycling makes once it’s been put in their blue bin.

The children were excited to see the blue recycling bin being lifted onto the back of the lorry and hear the loud noises it made as the items were tipped in. They then watched the recycling being crushed to ensure as much as possible can fit in. The crew explained how the recycling is taken in the lorry to Waterbeach before it is sent to a recycling sorting machine in Kent.

Executive Councillor for Environmental and Waste Services, Cllr Jean Swanson said: "I’m delighted that the collection crew were able to give the children the opportunity to see for themselves what happens to their recycling and would like to thank them for going the extra mile. Millington Road Nursery is doing a great job teaching the children the importance of recycling and protecting the environment."

Millington Road Nursery School was awarded a Green Flag in January 2013 for its work in making the school an eco-friendly place.

Mary Field, Millington Road Nursery Principle said "The children are introduced to the concept of caring for their environment in many ways. They plant bulbs and vegetables in the nursery garden along with caring for wildlife and insects. The children are even encouraged to recycle waste products from their lunch boxes."
