Car Wash Crazy In Cambridgeshire

Car washing firefighters have already raised nearly £500 for charity - and motorists are encouraged to continue to show their support at four remaining events.

Crews at Ramsey and Gamlingay fire stations have already collected £453 between them following their two car washes this month (March). All the money is being raised for The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides support, rehabilitation and care for fire service personnel across the country.

This Saturday (March 22) both Cambridge Fire Station, in Parkside, Cambridge, and Chatteris Fire Station, in Station Street, Chatteris, will be soaping up their sponges.

Cambridge's event is being supported by Stretham-based firm Masters Logistical - a site crews attended only last year to deal with a devastating fire. Panther Taxis and Barclays are also supporting the event, which runs from 9am until 5pm. Chatteris car wash runs from 10am until 2pm.

The following Saturday, March 29, firefighters at Kimbolton Fire Station will be scrubbing cars from 9.30am until 3pm, as will Thorney Fire Station crews, from 9am until midday.

Matt House, one of the event organiser's, said: "The public have been so generous already but we would love motorists to continue to show their support at these remaining events.

"If it's got wheels, we'll give it our best shot at scrubbing it clean to raise as much cash as possible for this fantastic charity."
