Lib Dems name team for opposition

Cambridge Liberal Democrats have brought forward an experienced leadership team for their new role in opposition at the City Council.

Tim Bick continues as leader of the Liberal Democrat group, moving from Council Leader to Leader of the Opposition at the Council's annual meeting next week. Catherine Smart will continue as his deputy, but moves from her long time housing focus to speak for the opposition on Planning & Transport.

The opposition team sees the return to a frontline role for former Council Leader Sian Reid, who will lead for the Lib Dems on Community, Arts & Recreation.

Other key shadow roles go to Cllrs Andrea Reiner (City Centre & Public Places), Julie Smith (Finance & Resources), Mike PItt (Environment, Waste & Health), Andy Blackhurst (Housing).

Cllr Bick commented: "An effective opposition is a vital ingredient to a healthy council. With this team of experienced councillors we feel well equipped to take on the role. We will support the administration when we think they are right, but will hold them to account on their promises and on the council's performance on behalf of residents. Labour has inherited a good legacy from us and there is no reason for them to drop the ball."
