Works Information Notice: A14 Girton to Histon Pinch-point Programme

The following notice has been published in relation to the A14 (Girton) improvement works. Basically on Tuesday 17th June the westbound carriage will be closed from 9pm to 6am.

Here's the notice in full;

Costain is pleased to be working with the Highways Agency on the delivery of planned road improvements on the A14 in Cambridge between J31 at Girton and J32 at Histon. The improvements are part of the targeted improvement and pinch point programme and are by their very nature intended to improve traffic movements through this very busy section of road.

The improvements include adding an additional lane in both directions and improving the existing westbound slip roads to both the M11 and A14 at the Girton interchange. The works commenced on the 14th April and will take up to 10 months to complete.

For the past four weeks the work has in the main been undertaken during the day with two lanes running in both directions and a 50 mph speed limit. Some lane closures have occurred at night but single lane opening has been maintained throughout the period. However, on Tuesday 17th June 2014 the westbound carriageway will be closed between 21.00hrs and 06.00hrs between Junction 36 and Junction 31 to realign the safety barriers. The procedure can only be undertaken within the safe environment of a full carriageway closure and we very much regret any inconvenience the closure may cause.

The closure and diversions will be well sign posted and details of the diversions can be found on the Highways Agency website-
