Cambridge MP supports Rotary Club peace initiative

MP Julian Huppert is supporting an initiative by the Rotary Club of Cambridge South to mark the United Nations international day of peace.

Julian is taking part in a conference at the city’s Leys School on Sunday, September 21, which will be followed by three days of peace debates and workshops for sixth formers at local schools.

The events have been organised to mark Peace One Day, a worldwide day dedicated to resolving conflict and promoting peace.

Julian said: “This is an excellent initiative and I feel privileged to have been asked to take part.

“If we are to have any chance of resolving conflicts and one day achieving world peace we must help our young people not to repeat the mistakes of the past. Engaging them in discussion and encouraging them to take part in debate on these issues is vital in making sure they have all the information they need to make informed decisions.

“By promoting a greater understanding hopefully we will empower future generations to end the suffering that people are enduring at the hands of others and our world can become a more settled place.”
